Why HIIT?

Trainer Travis Perry takes MBS fitness client through a HIIT-style workout at our Southtown location.

Why HIIT?

By Trainer Travis

HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. It’s a popular form of training because it burns a lot of calories in just a short amount of time. Studies show that HIIT style training is more effective at burning off fat than “steady state” training and also increases both anaerobic (fast) and aerobic (slow) fitness.  The constant change of pace and variety of exercises keep the body guessing so it cannot adjust and adapt. This means you don’t plateau so quickly and your body keeps burning calories like it did the first day you started to workout.

I personally always change up my workouts to keep my body guessing.

HIIT also has an “after burn” effect on the body where you continue burning calories after the workout is complete (up to 48 hours in some studies). For my classes, I like to incorporate this style of training and offer modifications so that the class  works for everyone. I also design workouts to be functional. Most moves incorporate multiple joints and muscles to help people get stronger and move more efficiently. If you’re looking for a class that will help you tone up, lose weight, and experience a great workout, try out one of my HIIT-style classes!
